JOEL HAVEA

Mass Formation EP

The COVID-19 years were a defining moment of our lifetime: socially, psychologically, and culturally. And yet, musically, it’s as if they never happened. Mass Formation is a collection of songs written in response to that silence.

The EP explores themes of social pressure, collective behaviour, institutional failure, and the uneasy feeling of watching systems fracture in real time. The songs range from produced, with the title track co-produced with Toby Dundas, to raw and intentionally unpolished, sitting somewhere between protest, reflection, and documentation.

The Famili Choir

The Famili Choir is a developing live music project, led by Joel Havea, exploring over 100 years of the Havea family's songwriting catalgoue through a contemporary diasporic lens.

The repertoire includes compositions by Joel’s great uncle Manoa Havea, a significant Tongan composer and choirmaster who co-wrote with Queen Salote Tupou III, alongside works from other members of the Havea family across multiple generations, as well as original songs from Joel Havea’s back catalogue.

The Famili Choir creates a conversation between generations, blending soul, folk, gospel and Pasifika musical traditions into an intimate live performance celebrating memory, migration and belonging.
