Joel was approached by Pulitzer Prize winning American journalist Ian Urbina to tell the story of his 2019 book "The Outlaw Ocean" through song.

KI 'A LAVAKA (2020)

On his trio's new record “Ki 'a Lavaka”, Joel delves into the music from Tonga, his country of birth for the first time. The album pays homage to the long line of well-respected Havea songwriters from the tropical island Kingdom. The result is a reflection of his roots as a true world citizen, adding another element to his already eclectic style. The album was released in April 2020.

ONE HAND CLAPPING (2018)

“One Hand Clapping“ is the soundtrack from the novel “Rowan & Eris” by Australian author Campbell Jefferys. Brought to life by Joel, as he wrote the songs in character as Rowan Davidson, the main protagonist of the story. The story is a coming of age, road trip adventure following Rowan as he journeys across the USA searching for his daughter and ends up finding himself and his musical voice along the way.

The very first release from the Joel Havea Trio feat. Arnd Geise on Bass and Leo Lazar on Drums. This album was recorded in studios in Poland, Germany and onboard a cruise ship along the east coast of Africa.

The acoustic EP “Strings & Wood” is Joel at his stripped back acoustic best. It was primarily recorded with guitar, percussion and double bass, displaying a sound more reminiscent of his energetic live acoustic performances.
